Maybe you’ve realized that old windows are driving up your energy bill every summer or leaking every time it rains. Maybe you’re just looking for an aesthetic and modern upgrade.

No matter the reason, there’s one step you’ll have to take to replace your windows, and that’s schedule a design consultation. In fact, you’ll probably schedule two or three, so you can compare different window installation companies in your neighborhood. With all these consultations in your future, what should you expect?

At ZINTEX Remodeling Group, we’re bringing over 25 years of home remodeling experience to the window replacement industry. We know that for many homeowners, the thought of letting a stranger come into your house is a little daunting. Today, we’re going to share exactly what to expect so you can go into your design consultation with confidence.

What Are the Top Goals of a Window Consultation?

Why do almost all window replacement companies require customers to complete a consultation before they make any decisions? In-home design consultations serve a few very important purposes, including:

  • Learning more about a company’s services, products, and pricing to determine if they’re a good fit for your remodel
  • Assessing your current windows to figure out which ones need to be replaced, what your window dimensions are, and what types of windows you’d most benefit from
  • Sharing your specific goals, whether that’s to improve energy efficiency, aesthetics, peace and quiet, or security (or, in most cases, all of the above!)
  • Discussing your budget

You can find out quite a bit about ZINTEX window installations from our website, particularly from our:

That said, our expert design consultants are able to answer any questions you may have and help you to design the vinyl windows that meet your functional goals and budgeting needs.

How Long Do In-Home Consultations Take?

First, let’s talk about what happens after you fill out a consultation form on our website. You can expect to get a call within 24-72 hours, with a faster response time on weekdays. During that phone call, you can schedule your appointment time for your earliest convenience.

What about the consultation itself? In order to present our products and services, assess your windows, and discuss your design specifications, your design consultation will need between one and two hours of your time. This might sound like a long process, but our professional design consultants will keep things as efficient and helpful as possible.

What Happens During Your Window Consultation?

What will actually happen during your window replacement consultation in order to meet the goals listed above? Over the course of your appointment time, you and your design consultant will discuss:

  • The problems you’ve been having with your current windows: Whether you’re noticing an increase in energy use, a draft coming from your windows, or water damage around your window frames, we want to know what’s going on currently.
  • Your biggest priorities and goals for your window replacement: This goes hand in hand with the problems you’re currently having. We want to know what you need from your new windows so we can help you design the perfect window unit for the job.

  • Your budgetary needs: What is the absolute most you can afford to spend on your remodel? What’s your target budget? How can financing play a role? Your budget is the north star of your window remodel, and we’ll work with you to maximize your results without going over cost.
  • Our products and accessories: What are the products and accessories we offer that can balance your goals with your budget? We find that vinyl windows are excellent for everything from energy efficiency to aesthetic, and this is the time to find out if you feel the same.
  • The ZINTEX installation timeline and estimate: Once everything above has been discussed, your design consultant can share the expected timeline and window replacement cost estimate for your project.

Who Needs to Attend Your Design Consultation?

Ultimately, our goal is to do what works best for the members of your household, and we understand how hard it can be to get everyone in the same room at the same time. That said, we do recommend that the following people attend your design consultation:

  • All homeowners: Whether you own your home with your spouse, a friend, or another family member, we do require that all homeowners participate in the conversation
  • Anyone helping with financing: If someone outside of the home is helping you to finance your window replacement project, you may want to include them to provide clarity on budgetary goals.

What if you live alone and you’re paying off your remodel alone? You can always invite a trusted friend or family member to provide a second opinion if a one-on-one consultation feels overwhelming.

How Can You Prepare for Your Window Consultation?

There’s nothing you absolutely have to do before your design consultation. Our consultants have experience working with homeowners who don’t know much more than the plain fact that they need new windows. If you do want to streamline the process a bit, you can do the following before your appointment:

  • Assess your remodel budget range: You can use our website to help narrow down a realistic budget for your remodel.
  • Clear a path: We by no means expect a spotless home, but it’s helpful for our design consultant if your windows are easily accessible for measuring and assessment!
  • Get inspired: Don’t hesitate to show us any design inspiration you have, whether it’s a photo you saw on our website or your personal Pinterest board. You can also share your inspiration by having answers to questions like:
    • What problems can a remodel solve for your household members?
    • What design styles are you most drawn to?
    • What is most important to you when hiring a window replacement company? (E.g., customer service, affordability, product options, etc.)

This is your time to ask any questions or get any clarity you need before making the choice to sign a contract. No question is too granular for our design consultants!

What Happens After Your Window Replacement Consultation?

Many of our ZINTEX customers sign a contract the same day they have their design consultation, which speaks to the thoroughness of our consultants. That said, you are not at all obligated to make a choice that same day. Feel free to review the window replacement proposal custom-created during your consultation and get back to us at a later date.

Once you’re ready to sign, we’ll finalize all of your design details and make sure that you’re 100% happy with what we’ve come up with. From there, we’ll place an order for your materials, which can take between three to five weeks to fill.

Once we’ve inspected your materials for quality and accuracy, we can begin your installation (though we’ll schedule this start date far in advance for your convenience). We can complete an average of ten to twelve windows per day, with most window replacement projects taking two to three days total to complete.
