Installers placing window in a rough opening

As you get closer to making the decision to replace your windows, you’re not just thinking about cost. You suspect that window replacement is a relatively disruptive home improvement project, and you want to know exactly what that looks like before you commit.

At ZINTEX Remodeling Group, we install vinyl windows at a rate of about 10-12 windows per day, and most projects take between one and three days to complete. Now, we’re here to break down what exactly happens during that time. Read on for our step by step guide to ZINTEX vinyl window installation, from putting together your dedicated window installation team to putting the final shine on your windows.

1. Assigning Your Window Installation Team

You’ve completed your free, in-home window design consultation and you’ve decided to move forward with ZINTEX. Now that you’ve signed a contract, we get to put together your designated window installation team.

By creating a designated window installation team from the get-go, we ensure consistency, clear communication, and continuity of care.

Your window installation team will include the design consultant you already know, as well as a project manager that can answer any question you may have along the way. Your team will also include your installers, which vary in numbers based on the scope of your project.

2. Remeasuring for Guaranteed Accuracy

We took some basic measurements during your design consultation. This allowed us to assess your window replacement needs to give you the most accurate estimate possible.

Before we put together the order for your new vinyl windows, we’ll send someone from your team to remeasure each window you plan to replace.

While the vast majority of residential windows fall into a standard range of sizes, very few windows will be exactly standard. Because your home has settled over time, your frames will probably need slight customizations to fit the precise size and angle of each rough opening.

3. Pre-Install Material Inspection

We take every step of the window installation process seriously because we know that cutting corners at any juncture means cutting corners on the entire project. That’s why all of the products we bring to your home have been thoroughly inspected.

Pre-install material inspection ensures that everything from your hardware to your glass type meet the exact specifications of your design. Plus, it gives your installer the opportunity to catch potential product defects and replace parts as needed.

4. Existing Window Material Demolition

This is the point at which your in-home installation will officially begin, and it all starts with the demolition of your existing windows. Your installers will protect your home while removing all old window materials, and they’ll oversee proper disposal of all waste.

This stage of your installation can get a little loud, so make sure you have a plan for pets, kids, remote work, and anything else that might be disrupted by noise. Your window installation team should be able to give you an estimate of how long it will take to complete the demolition phase.

5. Pre-Install Rough Opening Inspection

ZINTEX is a full-service window replacement company. That means that your designated ZINTEX installers will handle everything related to your new windows, including structural repairs.

To determine what structural repairs your home needs (if any), your installation team will inspect the rough opening of every window they’ve removed. They’re looking for signs of water damage, mold, rot, and anything else that could impact the quality of your new windows.

This is most commonly the point at which your installation team would have to reevaluate your estimated timeline. If they uncover more extensive damage than anticipated, it may take a little longer to complete your project.

6. Waterproof Flashing Installation

Once your installers have addressed any structural issues, it’s time to set the stage for a truly waterproof window. To create this waterproof barrier, your installer will use a material called flashing.

Window flashing is a thin material that goes between your window unit and the rough opening in your wall. At ZINTEX, we typically use a vinyl flashing that is ideal for the humidity levels we see in areas like Dallas and Fort Worth.

7. Vinyl Window Installation and Leveling

With flashing in place, it’s time to install your complete window unit. Thanks to our rigorous quality control, this part of the process is simple, streamlined, and straightforward.

After applying a strong adhesive to the frame, each window is hand-placed into the prepared rough opening. Using a leveling tool, your installer makes sure that the unit is level before securing them in place.

8. Low Expansion Foam Adhesion

As we mentioned earlier, the rough opening that holds each window in your home changes in shape as your property settles. Even with custom dimensions, your installer may still need to close up a few small gaps between that rough opening and your window frame.

At this point, your installer will use low expansion foam to seal up any gaps as needed, improving your home’s energy efficiency and cooling capabilities. The great thing about low expansion foam is that it creates insulation without applying pressure to the frame that could cause your window to bow or warp.

9. Window Sealant Application

The last step of the actual installation is to apply an even layer of advanced acrylic polymer window sealant to create a barrier that:

  • Completes your waterproofing system
  • Prevent drafts and improve energy efficiency
  • Remains strong and flexible for years

Because your window sealant is slightly visible, you can choose between white, grey, black, or clear for design cohesion.

10. Test Operation

Whether your design consisted of classic single-hung windows, popular slider windows, or compact casement windows, you’re looking at a few moving parts. After installing, leveling, and sealing your new windows, your installation team will test the operational features to make sure everything works smoothly.

That means that each window needs to open and close as intended and with minimal effort required. Each window also needs to lock in place. If you have any internal rotation features, the rotating sash needs to rotate in and close back up to create a perfect seal. The only type of windows that don’t need to undergo this testing are fixed windows.

11. Pre-Reveal Window Cleaning

In the process of handling your new windows, your installation team has probably left behind some fingerprints and smudges.

Your ZINTEX install team will clean every single one of your new vinyl windows, inside and out. It should never be your responsibility to clean your own windows right after an install.

12. Debris Sweep and Removal

Similarly, there will be debris in the installation areas after the labor is complete. This might include any packaging that protected your windows during transport, drop cloths that kept your floors and furniture protected, and even extra hardware.

Before giving you the grand tour of your new window replacements, your installation team will go around the property to remove all debris and leave your home exactly as it was. Once again, this should never be your responsibility.

13. 100% Satisfaction

Finally, it’s the moment you’ve been waiting for. It’s time to see your new windows, make sure they meet your expectations, and learn about all operational features.

At ZINTEX, your satisfaction is our number one priority. The job isn’t done until we know that you are a 100% satisfied, happy customer!
