You do your due diligence before investing in a home remodel. You request estimates from at least three different local contractors so you can compare costs and offerings. You’re currently comparing DFW window replacement estimates, and you’re wondering why these estimates are more than $10k apart when you’ve asked each company to replace the same number and type of windows.
At ZINTEX Remodeling Group, we’ve been providing home improvement services in Dallas and beyond for 25 years. We feel confident enough about what we do that we’re willing to address questions that other companies often try to avoid. Keep reading to learn why different Dallas window replacement companies charge such different prices for seemingly similar services.

Window Material Quality Makes a Price Difference
You already know that there’s going to be a cost difference between something like a vinyl window frame and a metal window frame. What you might not realize is that different companies may be marketing the same material but selling products that are very different in terms of quality, and that’s going to impact price.

Vinyl is an excellent example of how much the quality of a material can vary:
|
High-quality thermal polymer or uPVC |
Poor-quality or builder-grade vinyl |
|
✅Heat and UV-resistant: prevents warping and color changes |
❌Will warp, sag, and/or show discoloration (e.g., white frames looking yellow) after a few years of heat and sun exposure |
|
✅Reinforced: can withstand North Texas climate, including hailstorms |
❌Will dent easily, with impact of large hail stones knocking holes in particularly weak frames |
|
✅Good build quality: lasts for 20+ years without serious operational issues |
❌Poor build quality: parts and pieces fail quickly, windows become hard to open and shut, sash frames start coming apart, etc. |
What you may not realize is that the company offering the cheapest vinyl window replacement services may be using modified builder-grade frames. Those window units may come with flashy ratings like a low u-factor, but if the quality is bad, you won’t enjoy those benefits for long.
Experienced Labor Costs More
When you’re hiring a professional home improvement company, labor will likely account for about 25-40% of your total bill. This difference in labor costs can easily account for a $10k difference between one estimate and another, even if you’re asking both companies to replace the same number and type of windows.
The question remains, why would some companies charge a higher percentage for labor than others? In many cases, this comes down to the quality of craftsmanship an installer can provide.

Think of it this way. One company wants to hire a window installer at an hourly rate that falls below industry standards. To do so, they’ll need to hire someone who is brand-new to the industry and maybe isn’t even licensed.
Another company wants to hire the best window installer in Dallas. To make sure they’re the company to hire that installer, they need to offer competitive rates. This does mean that the company costs more to use, but it also means you’re getting installation quality you can trust.
Some Window Company Brand Names Carry Weight
ZINTEX Remodeling Group has been around for 25 years, but our window replacement services are on the newer side. Frankly, we don’t have the type of window industry reputation to charge the most and still get business–unlike some of our competitors.
Some of the biggest names in window replacement can stand on longevity and, in many cases, a well-earned positive reputation when setting their prices. In their decades of experience, they may also have developed products or techniques you can only get from them.
There’s nothing wrong with paying more to hire a company you feel good about. If you want to work with the brand whose commercials you’ve seen your whole life, you should! That said, if you receive an estimate that gives you a bit of sticker shock, there’s nothing wrong with shopping some of those companies that haven’t been around as long.
Company Overhead Can Impact Your Estimate (and Your Experience)
This one is a lot like the difference in labor quality. A company with a higher overhead may have higher prices, and this can be seen as a good thing or a bad thing. It all depends on why overhead costs are higher in the first place.
On the not-so-good side, you’ve got a company with a high overhead simply because they aren’t efficient. Maybe their installers take longer per job, so you have to pay for more hours of work. Maybe they lose a lot of product due to high rates of manufacturing errors.
When is higher overhead a benefit to the customer? It’s worth the extra money if a company is paying more for things like a reliable customer service center, robust liability insurance, well-built products, and functional warranties.
