An Accessible Tub-to-Shower Conversion in Richland, Mississippi

March 27th, 2026

Discover the scope, cost, and financing details of a real shower remodel completed in February of 2026.

What Were the Estimated Costs Actually Covering? Was It Worth It?

As a recent retiree, Linda was conscious of how much she would need to spend to get the walk-in shower upgrade her husband needed to support his lower body and mobility needs. Having received a cheaper estimate for a tile shower, she wasn’t sure that the longer lifespan of an acrylic shower or the quality of a ZINTEX install was worth the bigger price tag. Michael, her design consultant, was thorough in answering all of Linda’s questions, ultimately earning her trust to replace her tub-and-shower-combo with an accessible Jacuzzi walk-in shower.

Linda’s Primary Goals

Increasing accessibility

Linda’s existing tub-and-shower combo had a standard 14” ledge and a small grab bar on the far wall, installed well below waist height. Together, these features made it difficult and unsafe to enter and exit the shower. Linda wanted a tub-to-shower conversion with more grab bars installed in multiple locations to create seamless accessibility throughout the shower.

Improving aesthetics

The original fiberglass tub and shower surround weren’t in terrible shape, but they weren’t doing the bathroom any favors. Things like an old shower rod and a 14” gap between the top of the shower surround and the bathroom ceiling contributed to an outdated look. Linda wanted a custom, modern walk-in shower install to add a touch of luxury to her primary bathroom.

Improving functionality

Linda’s existing design made regular maintenance a slow and tedious process. The tub and shower walls had multiple ledges that were too shallow to be particularly functional, but they still created lots of nooks and crannies that were hard to clean. Linda wanted accessories that maximized functionality (like a dual-function grab shelf) with materials that are easy to clean (like smooth acrylic walls).

How Michael Addressed Linda’s Cost Concerns

Linda had received an estimate from another local Jackson-area bathroom remodeling company for a tile shower that would ultimately cost less than the estimate she received from ZINTEX. Michael made sure to address all of her questions and concerns, including:

  • How long an acrylic shower would last and why it was more durable than a tile shower
  • What her ZINTEX walk-in shower cost was actually covering
  • Why it was important to invest in quality, trusted labor when adding a permanent structure to her home

Due to low vision, Linda was relying on Michael to be thorough, honest, and transparent about the terms of her contract. In the end, she felt ready to proceed with ZINTEX, saying, “Okay, I trust you.”

A Quote from Design Consultant Michael Hughes

This [tub-to-shower conversion project] sticks out to me because she is my neighbor. From the back door of my apartment I can see her garage every day. I see her walking in the park next to the pond between our homes. I knew with Zintex I could trust our team to take care of my neighbor and keep us on good terms even after all was done.”

The Bigger Picture: Zooming Out on the Walk-In Shower Cost

How Linda’s New Shower Aligns With Her Home Value

Ideally, you want your bathroom remodel to cost between 5-10% of your property’s current value. In Richland, the median home value is roughly $220,000k in February of 2026, the month and year that Linda remodeled her shower for $18,800. That puts the cost of her remodel at about 8.5% the median cost of Richland housing, which is smack dab in the middle of that ideal ratio.

How could Linda’s new shower improve her property value? On average, a mid-range bathroom remodel (like a tub-to-shower conversion) can yield a return of about 73%. That means that her new walk-in shower could add up to roughly $13,725 to her property value.

Where Linda’s Walk-In Shower Lands in Our Typical Price Range

At a total of $18,800, Linda’s walk-in shower lands in our intermediate price range. As you can see, however, her shower includes some of the features listed in our deluxe category, such as foldable seating, a hand held diverter, and 2 grab bars. How did that come to pass?

Linda’s shower remodel is a great example of how you can get the accessibility features you need even on a budget that doesn’t allow for a deluxe upgrade. By sticking with a standard base size, a single shelf, and a shower rod, Linda reduced some of her material and installation costs to prioritize features that would be more beneficial to her and her husband.
