Whether you’ve got a historic Old West property or a contemporary home in Travis Heights, one thing is certain: it’s time for a bathroom remodel. The problem is that you’re not sure how to start budgeting when you can’t seem to find a definitive answer to the question, “How much does a bathroom remodel cost in Austin?”

At ZINTEX Remodeling Group, we’ve completed thousands of bathroom remodels, specializing in new tub and shower solutions. Our experience allows us to provide up-to-date transparency about everything from the quality of our products to the latest industry costs. On average, an Austin bathroom remodel cost will be anywhere from $15,000 to $75,000. Read on to discover where your remodel may fall in that range.

Is $10,000 Enough for a Full Bathroom Remodel in Austin, TX?

You might be seeing numbers as low as $5,000-$10,000 when you look up the average cost of an Austin bathroom remodel. Is a budget of $10,000 really enough to remodel an entire bathroom?

It’s possible, but not likely. At this price range, you may be working with someone who is unlicensed, uninsured, or limited in experience. In these situations, the customer takes on more liability than they may realize. For example, they may have to pay out of pocket for property damage caused by an uninsured contractor.

You can also get rid of labor costs altogether by going the DIY route, which might get you under the $10,000 mark. Before you embark on any major DIY bathroom remodel projects, take a look at our guide to DIY do’s and don’ts. Even little mistakes can have expensive repercussions when we’re talking about things like wiring and plumbing.

Why Do Professional Remodels Start at $15,000?

Thanks to inflation, the average price ranges you see online can become outdated pretty quickly. In fact, inflation tends to hit industries like home remodeling a little harder than others.

For example, according to the Verisk Repair and Remodel Index, remodel costs increased by 3.43% in Q2 of 2025, compared to the 2.7% increase in inflation.

What does that mean in terms of actual cost? A remodel that cost $14,000 in January of 2025 would have cost $14,480 by June. That might not seem like a huge increase, but it has important long-term implications. A price range posted four or five years ago could be off by a few thousand dollars.

What Factors Will Impact My Full Bathroom Remodel Cost?

When you’re trying to make sense of such big numbers (and such a vast price range), it can be beneficial to break things down into cost categories.

Cost Category

Cost Range

Percentage of Budget

Labor

$6,000 - $18,000

25% - 40%

Materials

$4,000 - $15,000

40% - 60%

Demolition

$600 - $3,500

5% - 10%

Plumbing & Electrical

$1,200 - $6,000

10% - 20%

Fixtures & Features

$2,500 - $12,000

15% - 30%

Permits

$150 - $1,200

1% - 3%

This itemization of costs has probably left you with new questions. Why, for example, do bathroom remodeling materials cost anywhere from $4,000 to $15,000? This is where your estimate is going to reflect your specific bathroom remodeling choices, such as:

  • The scope of your remodel. Remodeling a specific bathroom feature (like converting your tub into a walk in shower) will cost less than a full studs-to-done remodel. Similarly, a remodel that takes advantage of your current plumbing layout will cost less than a remodel that involves moving your shower or toilet from one wall to another.
  • The type and quality of materials you use. For example, acrylic shower walls fall into mid-range of average bathroom remodel pricing because while they’re high in quality and durable, they’re not costly as something like natural stone slabs or high-end tile.
  • The level of customization vs. standard options in your design. Standard options like a 30” x 60” shower base or basic shower wall colors will cost less than custom sizes or premium designs. Similarly, you can expect to pay more for custom cabinetry or add-on accessories than for pre-fab materials.

Tips for Building a Bathroom on a Budget of $40,000 or Less

One way to approach a bathroom remodel on a budget is to focus on the upgrades that would make the biggest difference. For example, some homeowners will opt to upgrade their tub or shower before (or instead of) tackling a full bathroom remodel. Others will incorporate a few additional upgrades, like new flooring, without doing a full studs-to-done transformation.

Additional tips to stay in the $40,000 or less zone include:

  • Using your existing layout: work within the existing square footage of your bathroom and take advantage of current electrical and plumbing configurations
  • Balancing your budget with durability by using mid-range materials: design your bathroom with materials like acrylic, which can last 15-20 years but is a more affordable alternative to natural stone or high-end tile
  • Prioritizing must-have design features: stick to standard or pre-fab options (such as single-color shower wall panels) whenever possible to make more space in your budget for the customizations you really need, like grab bars or non-slip flooring
