The foundation of any shower is its base. A shower base supports you while you bathe, diverts water to the drain, prevents water from seeping into your bathroom, and protects your subfloor from water damage. Ideally, it should also look good and last for years. That’s why ZINTEX is proud to be partnered with Jacuzzi in several of our markets, and why we’re here to help you understand your choice of shower bases when you design a Jacuzzi shower.

This might seem like a limited selection compared to the 8 Lifestyle Collection wall color options and the 12 Signature Collection wall color options. However, each shower base color is designed to compliment (or, in some cases, perfectly match) Jacuzzi’s shower walls.
Whether you’re looking to mirror the exact dimensions of the tub or shower you’re replacing or you’re looking for a reconfiguration, Jacuzzi’s wide range of shower base dimensions mean that there’s an option for you.
As the name suggests, this type of shower base has a drain in the center. This configuration is a given if you have a square shower base (as you might in a stall shower), but you’ll also find center drains in rectangular shower bases as well. Jacuzzi’s center drain shower bases are available in the following dimensions:
Center drain shower bases will have an even, imperceptible slope that directs water to the center from all sides.
Once again, the name of this shower base tells you what you need to know: the drain is located on one side, rather than in the center. Side drain shower bases are always rectangular in shape. Jacuzzi’s side drain shower bases are available in the following dimensions:
Side drain shower bases have a slope that is slightly different from one side to the other based on how far it must divert water to the drain. However, that slope is still imperceptible, and won’t impact your user experience.
We know what you’re thinking: what if the shower you’re designing doesn’t have a standard base size that aligns with any of the options we’ve listed above? Don’t worry, Jacuzzi has you covered.
Custom shower bases are available in dimensions ranging from:
When you’re designing a custom shower base, you will also be able to configure the drain based on your current plumbing needs or your reconfiguration plans.
Dimensions are only half the equation when you’re picking out your Jacuzzi shower base style. They also offer a variety of thresholds designed to meet your specific needs, whether that’s careful water containment or disability-friendly access.
Most Jacuzzi shower bases have a depth of between 3.5” and 4”. That means that you’ll be stepping over a ledge of 3.5” and 4,” which is not a problem for some, but can be problematic for others.
A depth of 3.5”-4” is typically all you need for proper water containment, assuming you properly use your shower curtain or glass shower door. For example, your shower curtain should fall on the inside of your shower base. If you have a glass shower door, it should be closed all the way while the shower is in use.
Most shower bases have a single threshold, meaning that only one side will serve as the entry point and require a shower curtain or glass door to enclose it. These are perfect for showers that are built into three-walled enclosures, but what about corner showers?
If your shower is installed in the corner, you’re going to need a double threshold shower base. Whether square or rectangular, these shower bases have two thresholds that can support two glass panels (usually one fixed panel and one functional door).
While standard shower bases have a depth and threshold of up to 4”, the deep shower base has a depth and threshold of 5 ¾”-6”. These shower bases are available with the following dimensions:
A deep shower base maximizes water containment, particularly if you’re using a less precise enclosure option, like a shower curtain. That said, we don’t recommend them if the person who will be using the shower is planning to age in place or has any existing mobility issues. That high ledge is not nearly as hard to step over as the side of a tub, but there are smaller threshold options available.
First on the list of accessible shower bases is the Jacuzzi Easy Step shower base. This shower base has a depth and threshold of only 1 ½”.

At this height, the Easy Step shower base is much easier to enter and exit with mobility or balance problems. You don’t have to raise your foot as high, which means you don’t have to balance on one foot as long, and you’re less likely to trip. The Easy Step shower base comes in a handful of standard sizes as well as customizable sizes.
What if you have a mobility aid that you need to bring with you into the shower? While the Easy Step ledge is just high enough to be preventative, theJacuzzi Barrier-Free shower base is nearly level with your bathroom floor. These shower bases can also include an optional ramp.

Like the Easy Step shower base, the Barrier-Free bases come in standard and customizable sizes. Your Design Consultant can help you pick the enclosure system that not only maximizes water containment, but also works for your physical needs.
Understanding your Jacuzzi shower base options can make planning your walk-in shower remodel that much easier. What’s next?
