You’re excited to invest in a professional shower remodel because you understand the benefit of customization. Unlike a pre-fabricated shower kit, a customizable shower can be designed with your exact needs and goals in mind. The question is, how can you make the most of your customization options?
Our goal is to understand your vision and develop a plan to make your project a reality.
After you complete our form, one of our Call Center Representatives will reach out within 24 hours to schedule a day and time for your consultation with our experienced Design Consultants.
ZINTEX Remodeling Group has completed over 20,000 bathroom remodels across 14 states and 25 years. Each and every one of those projects has started with a design consultation. Today, we’re here to share what we’ve learned in that time that can help you choose the right accessories for your walk-in shower remodel. We’ll cover:
A tub-to-shower conversion eliminates the need to step over that high tub ledge, but it also eliminates the storage tub ledges can provide. Built-in storage ensures that you have an easy-access spot for your shampoo, conditioner, and other shower necessities. Some homeowners stick with one type of storage accessory, while others mix and match.
Grab shelves are by far the most popular shower storage option ZINTEX offers. In fact, nearly 65% of our recent installs have included at least one grab shelf.
Grab shelves are available as both standard and corner shelves and can hold things like shampoo bottles, bar soap, and more. As the name suggests, they can function safely as small grab bars as well. They’re excellent space savers that improve your shower safety while maintaining a clean, modern look.

Corner shelves and corner caddies are also popular choices, especially for smaller walk-in showers. You can pick up to two of these storage accessories while staying within our standard price range of $11,000-$16,000.
Most corner shelves are big enough to hold two to three toiletry bottles. Some homeowners choose to stack these shelves so that they have two in each corner for a total of four shelves, which is a great choice for a family bathroom that multiple household members use or your primary bathroom. We also have tower caddies, which are a type of corner accessory that adds four separate shelves to each corner.
Soap niches are recessed alcoves that are designed to hold smaller items like bar soap. Shampoo niches are similar in design and tall enough to hold bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. Soap and shampoo niches are not as frequently used by our homeowners, appearing in only about 11% of our recent shower remodels.
When should you consider a soap niche? Some of our homeowners gravitate towards soap niches simply because they prefer the look. Others like that they create storage without taking up any of the square footage of the shower itself.
Just under 50% of all ZINTEX customers choose some form of built-in seating for their walk-in shower. Seating is a great option if you have disabilities that impact your balance or cause dizziness, but it can also increase comfort for anyone using your shower.
As the name suggests, foldable seating has a back panel that is installed directly to the shower wall. The seat itself can be folded out of the way or lowered for use. Of the homeowners who do choose to install seating in their walk-in shower, the majority choose the foldable option.
Foldable seating is a great choice if you want to limit the amount of space your seat takes up when not in use. You might prefer this versatility if you share your shower with another resident who isn’t likely to use the seat.

Bench seating is either a shelf-style seat or a triangular-shaped seat that is installed to the shower wall and can’t be moved. Roughly 10% of our shower installs have included a bench seat in 2026.
Unlike foldable seating, which comes in materials like bamboo, bench seating is made from thick acrylic that can perfectly match your shower walls. This creates a cohesive look that, with fewer nooks and crannies, can also be easier to clean. Plus, these bench seats can typically bear more weight than folding seats, making them a more size-inclusive shower accessory.
When you’re customizing your new tub or shower, you have the choice to stick with a traditional shower rod (which just under half of our customers choose) or upgrade to a glass enclosure.
Paired with the shower curtain of your choice, a shower rod is a classic and low-cost water containment system. In recent months, roughly 47% of our customers have opted for a shower rod, rather than a glass enclosure.
Shower rods are a great choice if you want to stick to that standard, lower cost design, or if you want to allocate more of your budget to features like grab shelves. They pair well with almost any shower or tub-and-shower configuration, although they may not be the best choice for a zero-threshold shower.
Glass shower doors are the most popular shower enclosure we offer. About 47% of our customers select sliding glass doors, with another 5% using hinge doors for stall or corner showers.
Glass shower doors are excellent at containing water in walk-in showers. They’re attractive and durable, making them a great value-add feature if you’re planning to sell your home. They’re particularly popular for primary showers because they create that elevated aesthetic homeowners want in a primary bathroom.

Fixed glass panels aren’t the most popular choice with our homeowners, but they are excellent for certain use cases. We tend to use them in rare or unusual shower configurations, installing fixed glass panels in about 4% of our recent projects.
For example, some homeowners have used fixed glass panels on spacious walk-in showers with dual shower heads on opposite walls. We have also used fixed glass panels to contain water on tub-and-shower combinations, although shower rods are the much more popular choice for this type of remodel. These glass panels can be on the pricier side, but they do look beautiful once installed.
Whether you’re replacing a tub-and-shower combination or getting a tub-to-shower conversion, you have the option of increasing your safety with grab bars. The question is, do you need them now? Will you in the next 15 years?
If you’re starting the process of creating a more accessible home for long-term use, we recommend adding at least one grab bar even if you don’t need it today. When we install grab bars in our tub and shower systems, we make sure the behind-the-scenes support beams are reinforced to bear up to 500 pounds. We also install your grab bar at a height and angle that works best with your body.
Why not just wait until you actually need grab bars? When you retrofit grab bars in an existing shower, you can’t be sure that they’re properly reinforced. Plus, most store-bought grab bars simply aren’t as durable or sturdy as the ones we provide from manufacturers like Jacuzzi.
