Why Companies Require Both Parties to Attend Bathroom Remodel Consultations

Whether you’re looking for a new bathroom from top to bottom or simply a new shower, your remodel journey will almost always start with free, in-home design consultations. You know from past experiences that some remodel companies expect both you and your spouse to find time in your busy schedules to attend your consultation together. Is that still the case?

While it’s not true across the board, you’ll find that most home remodeling companies (including ZINTEX) still abide by this rule. It may seem unnecessary and even frustrating in the moment, but we find that it’s ultimately to the benefit of your household if we can talk to both homeowners at the same time. Why? Let’s take a look at the 3 main reasons:

  1. Making sure you’re on the same page
  2. Creating clarity around bathroom remodel costs
  3. Moving your remodel along faster

Making Sure You're Bathroom Remodeling Plan Aligns

Before your design consultation, your household likely discussed your primary goals for your remodel. Let’s say you’ve both agreed that it’s time to convert your old tub to a walk-in shower, and you want at least one grab bar.

Aesthetics aren’t as important to one of you, so the other will tackle the design consultation and call the shots on things like shower wall colors and patterns. This is enough to get you on the same page, right? Not exactly.

Getting Into the Nitty Gritty of Your Bathroom Remodel

A lot more goes into a design consultation than just sharing your must-haves and making a few additional aesthetic choices. By having both parties in attendance, you’ll both have real-time access to information regarding:

  • What accessories and customizations are not only available through that remodeling company, but also possible to install in your existing space
  • How different customization and aesthetic choices will impact your estimate
  • The benefit of prioritizing certain customizations over others, especially within budget constraints
  • How long your project will take from start to finish and what disruptions you can expect in your household during installation
  • What your design consultant, who has seen countless bathrooms just like yours, expects your installers will find behind your shower walls (like water damage, outdated plumbing, and other conditions that might impact your remodel cost and timeline)

Ultimately, this is the opportunity for all key decision-makers in your home to gather tons of valuable information and ask any questions you have along the way, including the ones you didn’t know you’d have until you started talking to your remodeling expert.

Meeting as Many Walk-In Shower or Tub Needs as Possible

If this is your first time designing something like a tub or shower for your home, you may not realize just how much your remodeling company can cater to your needs. If only one of you is in attendance, the other may miss out on key opportunities to address lifelong frustrations with custom designs.

Imagine, for example, that your five-foot spouse sits through a bathtub replacement design consultation on their own. It doesn’t occur to them that you, as a six-foot-something person, have a totally different showering experience than they do or that there are design specifications that could improve that experience for you for years to come.

If you’re both there, your design consultant is better positioned to gather all the information needed to create the final product that checks every box, including the ones you never knew could be checked.

Creating Clarity Around Bathroom Remodel Costs and Payment Plans

Even if one party is seemingly more interested in the design specifics of a remodeling project, there’s one factor that will undoubtedly impact your entire household: cost.

It’s normal for families to set a maximum budget for a home remodel, and you’ve probably done so. However, as we’ve already suggested, one budget can be used countless ways when we start getting into accessories and premium materials. You may feel differently about how much you’re willing to spend (or how you want to spend it) after learning exactly what your budget can buy.

Plus, that lump sum isn’t the only number you need to agree on.

Over 65% of ZINTEX homeowners decide to partner with a lender to finance their new bathroom. When financing, your monthly payment reflects the financing terms you qualify for and the loan model you choose.

For the scope of remodeling projects we specialize in, these payments tend to fall between $199-$400 per month, and it’s important that both parties are in agreement before making any commitments.

Moving Your Bathroom Remodel Timeline Along Faster

You reach the end of a design consultation, and you feel good about the design you’ve come up with, the company you’ve talked to, and the estimate they provided. You’re ready to sign the contract, which means you’re eager to get the ball rolling. As it stands, you’re looking at a lead time of around three weeks with something like our Fast Track Program (or around four to eight weeks without it).

Now, you’re talking to your spouse or other household decision makers about the contract you’ve signed, and they have questions. Maybe they just want to have those questions answered before they feel totally comfortable, or maybe they actually don’t love something about the terms of the contract and want to make amendments.

Depending on the type of amendments we’re talking about, this could change your timeline more than you think, slowing down the entire process or even derailing your remodel.

In over two decades of bathroom remodeling experience, we have found that remodels move faster and run into fewer roadblocks when both parties are present for the design consultation. At the end of the day, giving up an hour or two of your time could shave weeks or months off of your remodel timeline, giving you access to that safer, cleaner, more functional bathroom sooner.
