How Did Debbie’s ZINTEX Estimate Stack Up Compared to Others? Was Our Price Worth It?

After Debbie was told by her doctor that she would benefit from hydrotherapy, it was time to talk to different bathroom remodeling companies in Northwest Arkansas about their walk-in tub options. Having received estimates that ranged from around $20,000 to $40,000, Debbie had a lot to consider. Charles, her design consultant, worked hard to bring down her estimate as much as possible without sacrificing any of the design features she needed. In the end, Debbie decided that a Jacuzzi walk-in tub from ZINTEX was the right fit with the right price tag.

Debbie’s Primary Goals

Increasing Accessibility

Debbie’s existing walk-in shower had a water retaining ledge that was several inches tall, requiring her to step over it to enter and exit the shower. Plus, while her shower was outfitted with grab bars, standing to bathe was no longer the ideal solution for her needs. Debbie’s doctor recommended that she swap out her walk-in shower for a walk-in tub to combine the therapeutic effects of soaking with the accessibility of a low threshold that she could easily step over.

Improving Functionality

Water therapy isn’t just about soaking in hot water. Debbie also needed features in her walk-in tub like hydrotherapy jets and massagers. These extra features do come with a bigger price tag, and some companies were charging a higher premium than ZINTEX does for Debbie to get the functionality she needed. In the end, it was about making sure the price was right for the non-negotiable design.

Debbie’s Primary Concern

Cost

Debbie had already received multiple quotes ranging from $20,000 to $40,000 before her ZINTEX consultation. When her initial ZINTEX quote came up on the higher end, she was prepared to call more companies until she could find what worked for her. After a thorough discussion of what features mattered most to Debbie, Charles was able to get her project estimate down to $30,000 flat. This put her project at the mid-range of local installation costs, and that cost included everything from demolition and repairs to a premium walk-in tub model and premium wall surrounds.

How ZINTEX Navigated Unexpected Structural Issues

If there’s one thing any experienced design consultant can tell you, it’s that no amount of experience will prevent the occasional unexpected issue. Once the installation team starts demolition, they just might uncover problems no one could have predicted when looking at the old tub or shower. That was the case in Debbie’s bathroom.

Once our team tore out the old shower base, they discovered significant damage to the subflooring below. What’s more, they realized that some of the floor scarring would be visible if they proceeded as planned, even after making necessary subflooring repairs.

Thanks to their experience, quick thinking, and support from the ZINTEX team, they were able to make some quick changes to Debbie’s design that would hide that scarring from view without increasing her costs.

How? The team swapped out a grab shelf and installed a pony wall, instead. The pony wall gave the overall design the extra inches needed to cover the scarring and created ample storage space for things like shampoo and soap.

Debbie’s Five-Star Review

Great company to work with. My installer Josh was nice, explained everything and answered all my questions.

The Bigger Picture: Pairing Aesthetic Beauty with Practical Needs

The Importance of Senior Accessibility in the Bathroom

According to the CDC, between 27.4% and 29.8% of adults aged 65 and older reported at least one fall in 2018 in the state of Arkansas.

Since then, our senior population has increased, and the number of falls has likely increased along with it.

The bathroom is one of the most frequently used rooms in any household. It is also a slip and fall hazard, particularly for individuals with disabilities that impact their balance or mobility. For many seniors, a walk-in shower with a low threshold entry and custom-placed grab bars can greatly reduce the risk of falls in the home. For Debbie, who needed a bathtub for the therapeutic benefits, a walk-in tub was the best choice.

The Proven Benefits of Hydrotherapy

The National Council on Aging lists hydrotherapy as an excellent way to:

  • Find pain relief by soothing inflamed muscles, relaxing sore muscles and joints, and massaging cramped or tight areas
  • Improve mobility through the same mechanisms listed above, especially after surgery or living with a condition that impacts motor function

They also note that hydrotherapy can be particularly beneficial for seniors with arthritis of any kind, fibromyalgia, Parkinson’s disease, or stroke.

Where Debbie’s Walk-In Tub Cost Lands in the ZINTEX Price Range

Debbie’s walk-in tub does fall into our higher intermediate or lower deluxe category, largely because she needed the walk-in tub model that included premium fixtures. At this price range, she was also able to upgrade her shower wall panels to a premium design with a simulated tile pattern.

What kept Debbie’s walk-in tub from falling into the most expensive price range? She stuck with the custom accessories she needed (namely, the grab bar and retractable shower wand) and skipped some of the custom accessories she didn’t.

When her installers realized she would need that pony wall to cover pre-existing damage on her subflooring, she swapped out an additional grab-shelf. This ultimately yielded more storage space at no additional cost.

How Much Will Your ZINTEX Walk-In Tub Installation Cost?

ZINTEX was up against quite a bit of local competition when Debbie scheduled her consultation, and that included companies with lower prices. In the end, we were able to offer the right price for the features she needed most.
