Lately, you haven’t been able to ignore how much you don’t like your current shower. Maybe the tub ledge is creating too much of a hazard as you enter and exit your shower. Maybe that old tile and grout is starting to show signs of mold growth. Either way, you’re pretty sure it’s time for an upgrade, but you’re not sure what you would want to do this time around.

At ZINTEX Remodeling Group, we’ve completed thousands of custom walk-in showers for customers across eleven states and counting. This year, we’re seeing some great walk-in shower design trends emerging, and we’re here to share them with you. Let’s take a look at the aesthetic and functional shower remodel features homeowners are choosing in 2026.

Table of Contents

Grab Shelves

Did you know that in the last 100 years, the population of Americans who are 65 and older has grown five times faster than the total population? It’s no wonder, then, that one of the biggest trends we’ve seen in 2026 is perfect for seniors who are planning to age in place: the grab shelf.

Grab shelves combine small ledges that are perfect for storing products like soap and shampoo with weight-bearing grab bars that increase shower accessibility. These shelves can be strategically installed on any of your shower walls at the height that best suits your needs.

Floor to Ceiling Shower Wall Panels

Many of the showers we replace have wall systems that stop a foot or more below the bathroom ceiling. This is especially common with fiberglass inserts, which aren’t custom built for the space, and tile showers, which can come with high material costs.

These days, more and more homeowners are opting to replace their old tub or shower system with an acrylic wall panel system that provides floor-to-ceiling coverage. While partial coverage may contain the majority of water, only floor-to-ceiling coverage can protect the entire shower area from moisture and water damage. This is a great way to prevent mold growth, rot, and other shower problems that can significantly decrease the lifespan of your new shower remodel.

Matte Black Hardware

As you design your new tub or shower, you’ll have your choice of hardware finishes. Currently, ZINTEX offers chrome, brushed nickel, oil rubbed bronze, and matte black.

In 2026, we’re seeing more and more homeowners go with matte black hardware for everything from their showerhead to their shelves and shower door frames. Matte black pairs well with just about any bathroom design style, even if your existing hardware (like your sink faucet or towel bar) are standard chrome. It adds a touch of modern elegance that is simple enough that it won’t go out of style any time soon.

Basic Stall Showers

At ZINTEX, our walk-in shower remodels start at a cost of around $11,000. At this price point, you can design a shower with:

  • A standard size (including the average stall shower dimensions of 36” x 36”)
  • A solid shower wall panel and shower base color
  • Standard features like two corner shelves, a shower rod, and a basic showerhead

While we often highlight our bigger, more complex projects, basic stall showers are a popular choice in 2026, especially for guest or secondary bathrooms. Though the design may be simpler, these showers still offer unbeatable waterproofing and durability, making them a great budget-friendly option.

Simulated Herringbone Tile

At ZINTEX Remodeling Group, we specialize in acrylic shower systems in large part because acrylic is one of the most waterproof shower wall materials on the market. Meanwhile, tile is often considered a classic because of its timelessness and design versatility. The problem? It’s one of the least waterproof shower wall materials on the market.

This year, we’re working with more customers who are taking advantage of our simulated tile finish, specifically in the herringbone design. The etched-in herringbone pattern creates the aesthetic of tile without compromising the waterproofing of a seamless acrylic wall panel.

Tower Caddies

Customizable accessories allow you to maximize storage space in your shower so you don’t need to crowd your shower floor with toiletries. Keeping your shampoo and soap off the shower floor eliminates a tripping hazard and reduces the need to bend or crouch, which can be a problem for people with balance issues or dizziness.

One storage accessory that’s on the rise in 2026 is the tower caddy, a corner shelving system that stretches from floor to ceiling. These caddies have up to four shelves per caddy, making it easy for you to organize your shower products based on things like frequency of use or type. Plus, they allow you to maximize storage even in small stall showers.

Foldable Shower Seating

At ZINTEX, our shower accessories tend to fall into two categories. You have your storage accessories, like the tower caddy discussed above, and you have your accessibility features. (Grab shelves, as noted earlier, check both boxes.)

One accessible shower design feature that is taking 2026 by storm is the built-in foldable shower seat. These seats are safe, secure, and able to bear up to 500 pounds, making them a much better alternative to stand-alone shower stools. Plus, they fold up to take up less square footage inside your shower when not in use, creating versatility in showers that are used by more than one person.
